Diamond Anniversary NC Auto Expo 2017

What Time Is it?

It is time for the NC Auto Expo 2017. The dates are the weekend of Feb 17th. The Expo offers the experience to go look at cars and trucks that are new. Therefore, this gives everyone a chance to hop in the cars they might like. Conveniently being able to check cars from many manufacturers at one place puts things in perspective.

In any case, for previous spectators, you can jump right to the floorplan. In the meantime, for those that have not been to the auto expo please check out their website.

Future Models at the NC Auto Expo 2017

No doubt, there will be at least one prototype at NC Auto Expo 2017. At least, I hope so. Last year had four if I recall right. Unfortunately, some of these were locked or otherwise blocked off. Still, I was able to get a peek at one on the inside, but pictures were not allowed.

I tried mercilessly to get inside the Focus RS by talking to the top guy at the Ford section. Eventually, I got the “real,” story. I was told because this particular one was from Europe and the regulations would not allow it to be opened in the U.S. in a public forum. Whether it was true or not – I didn’t get in.

Drive & Ride Alongs

This year promises to have a bunch of cars you can either ride along in or test drive. The set-up looks the same as last year. If that is the case, then you will want to head over to the Expo Center. Of course, inside the Expo center also has not only Jimmy Johnson’s Lowes Chevy SS but cars from GMC, Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Toyota. The staffing for each section is usually decent enough if you are patient.

Vendor Booths & Classic Cars

The vendor booths sprinkle the outside walls of each of the two main buildings. Many vendors have prizes which may require you to register. Last year there was even a Harley (I believe from Ray Price). GEICO’S Gecko Martin will be available Friday through Sunday between 12 pm – 2 pm with additional times on Friday and Saturday 5 pm – 7 pm. Please confirm schedule before going as time may change. Various radio stations will also broadcast live at different times (most likely in the lobby of the Expo Center).

Friday, Saturday. and Sunday head over to the Dorton Arena to check out some classic cars. Last year had some nice surprises. I have no idea what will be there this year, but I am sure you will find something you want to look at. I will be there teaming up with another photographer, so keep a look out for my post.
